Telangana University was established through Act Number 28 of the State Government in the year 2006. The University was established with an objective to make
the higher education accessible to the educationally backward District of Nizamabad in Telangana. Telangana University has been the prestigious NAAC "B"
Grade with the good score of 2.61 in the first cycle assessment carried out in December 2015. The 8-member NAAC team has visited the University on December 21, 22 and 23 in
the year 2015 and has awarded the "B" grade. The University was initially launched with Six courses and it was opened
in the PG building of the Govt. Giriraj College at Dubba area in Nizamabad town. The University was shifted on January 30th 2009 to the sprawling 577 acre campus at
Dichpally abutting the National Highway 44 on the Hyderabad - Nagpur highway.
The University is the first among he newly formed universities in the state to get the University Grant Commission (UGC) 12B recognition. Thus, making itself eligible for the UGC grants. At least half a dozen teaching staff members have got the UGC sponsored Major and Minor Projects.
Many Research scholars has also got the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellow Ships offered by the UGC.
Telangana University's biggest advantage is its name itself. This is the University which has got the States name as its name.
The unique name gives it immediate recognition across the country. The Telangana University name itself offers it a huge advantage in the newly formed Telangana State, where the creation of Bangaru Telangana is the prime inatiative.
It is the third largest University next only to Osmania University (Hyderabad) and Kakatiya University (Warangal) in Telangana State. It is clearly a front runner among all other newly formed universities like Satavahana University (Karimnagar), Mahatma Gandhi University (Nalgonda) and Palamuru University (Mahaboobnagar).
The TU has the largest number of courses(26) among the all new universities and ranks third after Osmania University and Kakatiya University. The TU is also the first among the newly formed Universities in the state to launch Ph.D programme in a total of 13 disciplines.
The University has reasonably good strength of regular faculty and has 81 regular faculty members are on rolls in different departments majority of them are the Doctorates and some of them are foreign teaching and Research experience. There are well and experienced Academic Consultants numbering 52 working in TU. There are a total of 8 regular Non-Teaching faculty members and around 260 Non-teaching Outsourcing Staff working for the TU.
The TU has three different and spacious campuses i.e., Main Campus at Dichpally, South Campus at Bhiknoor and the Third Campus is at Sarangapur.
:: Main Campus ::
Main Campus is at Dichpally where it has a sprawling 577 acre land. This offers a great scope future expansion ad turning it into an instution of Academis and Research excellence. By setting up of Research and Development facilities in Government or in tie up with industry. As the University's main campus is located with Dichpally abutting the National Highway 44 on the Hyderabad - Nagpur Road.
:: South Campus, Bhiknoor ::
The second campus is at Bhiknoor near Kamareddy where it has 44 acre prime land. This campus has a unique distinction of having produces the highest no.of UGC, CSIR fellowship winners in the department of Organic Chemistry. here is a lot of potential for developing this campus as the centre of excellence in the subject of Chemistry. As this campus is just lessthan two hour drive away from Hyderabad, there is a lot of potential for tie ups with industry.
:: Sarangapur Campus ::
The third Campus is at sarangapur near Nizamabad town where it has 60 acre land it is now offering Bachelor of Education(B.Ed) course only. It is proposed to start M.Ed course and specialised teacher education courses like Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) and Master of Physical Education(M.P.Ed).
